Sunday, December 8, 2024 at 7:30 PM: The Simas Trio
In addition to the San Francisco Symphony’s full season concerts, Jerry performs chamber recitals with SFS colleagues at Davies Symphony Hall and with the Sierra Chamber Society. He is solo clarinetist of the Left Coast Chamber Ensemble and is a frequent soloist in recitals and concerto settings in the Bay Area and beyond. His honors include Grand Prize at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, First Prize at the International Clarinet Association’s Young Artist Competition, and featured performances at summer music festivals. MARC SHAPIRO is Principal Keyboard of the California Symphony and from 1984 to 2003 was San Francisco Symphony Chorus accompanist. Mr. Shapiro performs frequently with Composers, Inc., Chamber Music Sundaes, Sierra Chamber Music Society, Mainly Mozart Festival, and the Mohonk Festival. Cellist Angela Lee is a graduate of The Juilliard School and Yale School of Music. She is a recipient of a Fulbright scholarship to study in London with William Pleeth; a grant from the Foundation for American Musicians in Europe; the Jury Prize in the Naumburg International Cello Competition; and a cello performance fellowship from the American-Scandinavian Foundation. She is a founding member of The Lee Trio.

Sunday, January 26, 2025 at 7:00 PM: Music on the Hill Benefit
Join us for an exciting evening of wine, hors d'oeuvres and live music.
We are thrilled to welcome back to Music On the Hill, Soprano Julia Hathaway. Joined by Jerry Simas, Clarinet and Ava Soifer, piano they will perform a program of Trios including the iconic “Parto Parto” from La Clemenza di Tito by Mozart, works by John McCabe, Ludwig Spohr, “Chante Arabe” by HermanBemberg, “Tres Canciones Mexicanas” by Antonio Salazar & “Elegie” by Massanet. Julia has performed with Music On the Hill, the West Edge Opera, Berkeley Chamber Players and in numerous productions at the Cinnabar Theater in Petaluma.
The Benefit will take place at a private home in San Francisco TBA. Suggested donation is $55. Seating is limited.

Sunday, March 30, 2025 at 7:30 PM: "Ava & Friends"
“Ava & Friends” present an unusual ensemble in a program of works for violin, French horn, and piano.
Performers are Adrienne Sengpiehl violin; Phillip Palmore, French horn; and Ava Soifer, piano.
Performing music by Johannes Brahms, Eric Ewazen, and TBD.
In a most unusual chamber ensemble this program presents rarely performed works that feature the lush, sensual sound of the French Horn. American composer Eric Ewazen modeled his Trio after the iconic Horn Trio by Brahms. Up and coming and new to the Bay Area, Phillip Palmore joined the S.F. Ballet Orchestra in the 2023-2024 season and also performs with the S.F. Symphony and S.F. Opera Orchestras. Adrienne Sengpiehl is a free lance musician performing throughout the Bay Area as a chamber musician and in many prestigious orchestras including the S.F. Opera Orchestra & S.F. Symphony. Adrienne & Ava are both longtime Artists in Residences at Ruth Asawa S.F. School of the Arts coaching strings, piano and chamber music. Performing music by Johannes Brahms & Eric Ewazan.
Adrienne and Phillip are joined by Artistic Director of Music on the Hill and pianist Ava Soifer.

The Ives Collective, formed in 2015 by Co-Artistic Directors Susan Freier and Stephen Harrison, is comprised of an impressive and ever evolving roster of musicians who bring together careers worth of experience at great music making organizations such as at the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, New Century Chamber Orchestra, the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, Opera Parallèle, and various university faculties and festivals. At the core of the Collective’s inspiration is its members’ joy in playing richly varied chamber repertoire with longtime friends.
Performers are: Terrie Baune, violin, Susan Freier, viola; Stephen Harrison, cello; Todd Brody, flute, Gwendolyn Mok, piano.

Sunday October 20, 2024 at 7:30 PM: Terzetto Trio
Violinist Jennifer Choi, cellist Angela Lee and guitarist Marc Teicholz perform in an unusual ensemble with a diverse and colorful program. These seasoned performers bring their vast experience, love of chamber music and long collaboration to create music with a fresh new sound.
Award-winning violinist, Jennifer Choi breaks through the conventional boundaries of solo, chamber music and the art of improvisation. She has performed worldwide in venues such as the Library of Congress in Washington D. C., the RAI National Radio in Rome, Hong Kong National Radio, and the Mozartsalle in Vienna and at Carnegie Hall's Weill Hall. Cellist Angela Lee is a recipient of a Fulbright scholarship, the Jury Prize in the Naumburg International Cello Competition; and a cello performance fellowship from the American-Scandinavian Foundation. She is a founding member of the esteemed Lee Trio. Guitarist Marc Teicholz was awarded first prize at the 1989 International Guitar Foundation of America Competition and was also a prize winner at the 1991 New York East-West Artists Competition. His performances throughout the world include tours of the United States, Canada, Russia, Poland, Switzerland, Southeast Asia, New Zealand and Fiji. He is currently on the faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Featured in this concert is a new work by the young and upcoming Bay Area composer Mia Turakhia, currently a Luna Composition fellow.
Performers are Jennifer Choi, violin, Angela Lee, cello, and Marc Teicholz, guitar.
Performing music by J. S. Bach, Luigi Boccherini, Astor Piazzolla, Dusan Bogdanovic, Mia Turakhia, and Niccolo Paganini.
